The Pros and Cons of Zip and Link Beds

Avatar

Zip and link beds comprise two smaller beds you connect to make one larger bed, usually a king or super-king size. When zipped together, you get the performance of a bigger bed with the ability to split them anytime.

There are three critical scenarios where this is useful:

The idea is to configure the beds to suit two people sleeping together or separately or move the two beds to different rooms.

Is a zip and link bed right for you? This article explores the pros and cons of zip and link beds to help you decide.

Let’s jump in!

ZIP and link Pros and Cons

Pros

With a zip and link bed, you can split or connect the bases to suit every bedroom layout – ideal if you need to accommodate different people.

This is especially useful for hotels and guest bedrooms and is a superior option to throwing two single beds together due to them possibly moving apart.

Additionally, the mattresses are incredibly comfortable, with pocket springs, memory gel, and foam options available to suit every sleeper.

Cons

The main con is the mattresses for a king-size zip and link are 75cm x 200cm (small single), and the mattresses for a super king are 90 cm x 200cm – this means you need a super-king if you want two single beds.

Additionally, the mattresses with zip and link beds are limited, so you have fewer options. Most beds are sold with mattresses, so you don’t get the option to specify something unique.

If you have the space to store a large mattress separately, you can substitute the two individual mattresses with a larger mattress. This configuration will ensure guests don’t feel the joint of two mattresses zipped together.

When to Buy a Zip and Link Bed

Zip and link beds are best for guest bedrooms and holiday lettings, and they also make a savvy choice for children’s bedrooms because you can split the beds for sleepovers – perfect if your kid’s bedroom is large enough.

You shouldn’t buy a zip-and-link bed if you don’t need two smaller beds or if you want a mattress with the latest technology. If you will only ever sleep a couple, get a double/king or a standard single bed for one person.
